I *love* engagement sessions, and approach them in a pretty unique way. I think of them as though we are taking an adventure together. You know how you get to know people so much better when you travel with them, or road trip together? I have thrown the idea of a traditional out the window, and instead I want us to dream up the most incredible location and just make it happen. This is a time where we are not constrained by venues or timelines, we can chase the most gorgeous light and hard to reach destinations (which may mean shooting at midnight in the Summer...but I’m ok with that!)
This is a chance for you to get comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding day, for us to get to know each other and get the most beautiful photos in the process.
Most people have never been photographed professionally before and it can feel awkward at first. Engagement sessions help to ease that awkwardness, and you’ll see that it is actually so much fun.
These extended engagement sessions are up to 90 minutes in length. This gives us enough time to go off the beaten path a little bit. Lets hike Portage Pass, or meet in Hatcher Pass at 10pm to capture that ridiculously amazing midnight sun
...lets dream up something both stunningly beautiful and reflective of your unique story.
This package includes 75 edited digital negatives delivered via download from an online gallery.
Need more time? Extra hours are $400
Classic engagement sessions are one hour in length and can take place anywhere within 30 minutes of Anchorage. Don't worry, we can absolutely make magic in an hour...in fact, we can probably make it to two different (nearby) locations during this time! These sessions are meant for people who want to keep it simple, or aren't interested in taking their shoot on the road but the length is generous enough to allow you to get nice and comfortable in front of the camera. Perfect for those who have never been photographed before.
This package includes 30 edited digital negatives delivered via download from an online gallery.
Sometimes, you just don't need much but you do know you want a little something! These 25 minute engagement sessions are quick but will be enough to get you a few shots for your save the date and must take place in the Anchorage bowl.
This option includes 10 edited digital negatives delivered via download from an online gallery.
from a photography perspective, light is the most important thing. Alaska is a tricky lady when it comes to light, which makes it even more important to think about it ahead of time. I can (and do) shoot in absolutely any lighting situation, but if you take the time to consider it, you can plan for things to happen when the light works in our favor, and that will only add to the gorgeousness of your photos!
all too often, couples worry about inconveniencing people on their wedding day. I think it’s great to be a caring person, but...this is your wedding day. I believe that we can go to epic locations (they're everywhere!) and do it in such a way that people aren't waiting around for hours while we're out strolling around on mountaintops (see tip #1)
Think about outfits that make you feel like...I look GOOD right now! Something that reflects your personal style is important, but I tend to recommend a neutral palette. You are welcome to make a wardrobe change half way through the session, or even just change your top/accessories, etc. That is completely up to you! You may have to bring an extra pair of shoes or a change of clothes if we are hiking or boating to our destination.
Personally, I always have my hair styled and make up professionally done before I’m photographed. Not only am I pretty terrible at doing those things myself, but it makes me feel so much more confident and beautiful when I have that done. It also goes a long way in front of the camera.
Somewhere stunning! This is Alaska! We may have to work for it, but it will be totally worth it.
Anywhere in Hatcher Pass
Garden Nurseries and Green Houses
Tiny Cabins in the Woods, in the middle of Winter
Anywhere you have to take a boat or plane to go to.
Everywhere along Turnagain Arm
A late night beach bonfire session.
On a mountain top under the midnight sun.
The Rooftop at Williwaw
This does happen every now and then. I am totally up for braving the weather, fog makes everything look magical in photographs, snow is so romantic and everyone loves a cozy umbrella shot or a shoot inside your favorite local spot. BUT I'm also completely on board for rescheduling to try for better weather. If it looks bad, we can be in touch 24 hours prior to the shoot and make a call on whether or not to postpone....just remember, this is Alaska. The weather changes practically every 10 minutes.
Some people want to include props in their session, which I think is great. However, it is best when they are genuinely something that you want to bring as a representation of who you are as a couple. If you think of something, I would love to incorporate it into your session!
I do LOVE when couples incorporate an activity into their session...for example:
Building a fire on the beach and making s’mores.
Popping a bottle of champagne
Fishing
Snow machining, or four wheeling...even dog mushing!
Hiking (even if we don’t go all the way to the top!)
Kayaking or canoeing.
